杰罗姆开始 has composed many scores for dance, theater, concert works, installation, film. Equally at home in the classical, 实验, 戏剧, 流行世界, he has always been drawn to collaboration. Begin takes from classical music concepts of form, process 和 compositional rigor. From 实验 electronic 和 acoustic music, he draws on ideas of sonic expansion 和 innovation in ways for musicians to connect in time 和 texture. 在流行音乐中, he is strongly attracted to the power of rhythm 和 sound over the body 和 the ability of the “hook” to resonate within the consciousness of individuals 和 masses. His vast experience composing in the dance 和 theater realms has lent to his music a deep underst和ing of the dynamics of live performance. He writes with a keen consciousness of the inherent theater present in the making of music.

Begin’s recent works have incorporated extensive use of electronics to process 和 augment the sound of acoustic instruments, employing customizable touch screen interfaces that allow him to “play” the effects live. Through this technology, the electronics function in a dynamic, musical way as part of the ensemble, imbuing the effects with a necessity to the work. 

Begin’s works have been performed throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia, including a nationally televised performance of his score for Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane 跳舞 Company for President Obama at the 2010 Kennedy Center Honors. Other commissions include works for Abraham in Motion, Hubbard Street 跳舞 Chicago, 朱丽亚, Brian Brooks Moving Company, Keigwin + Company, 赛舞, 肖恩·柯伦公司, 里士满芭蕾舞, 阿拉巴马州的芭蕾, 还有很多其他的. He co-wrote the score for the documentary Flex为王, about Brooklyn street dancers. In 2011, his music was featured on the PBS American Masters episode  A Good Man, about the making of a Bill T. 琼斯工作.
